Following tradition, Blizzard waited until they new they could offer a polished, balanced product before setting a release date. Well, the time has finally come.
Like the original StarCraft, the uncomplicated, clean interface and standard gameplay mechanics will be a welcome to both veterans and newcomers alike. The only resources you need to worry about are minerals and vespene gas which are used to generate units and buildings and upgrade your units abilities and defenses. One thing I've noticed about StarCraft 2 is that the gameplay seems to run a lot faster than the original. This was one of the (few) complaints I had with the original starcraft and I'm glad to see this issue addressed.
After a sigh of relief that the solid gameplay mechanics of StarCraft were preserved, the next thing you'll notice is just how beautiful this game is. All of the units are incredibly detailed, but the most impressive visuals can be found in the diverse, rich environments. Buildings are similar looking, and this can be confusing at first but if you're careful it isn't really an issue.
Why can't I give this 5 stars then? First and most important, where the hell is the rest of my game? Seriously blizzard? It seems like battle.net is trying to become more like Steam by selling games in chunks, hoping to coax a few more pennies out of us gamers.
The first StarCraft was successful exactly because of its simplicity and perfection. Don't taint this with marketing and accounting greed. I only hope this isn't a sign of more things to come at Blizzard.
